Yay! Baseball season is over! ;)

Seeing as how the bizzes call football "throwball", and I've heard a lot of folk refer to basketball as "roundball", WTF do they call baseball?
Batball?
;)
Gratz to the Yankees, and the Phillies, for great seasons and a great Series performance...Posted 4 months ago # -
Justin,
Don't get too excited, next season starts in like 6 days

go indians!...hmmmm clif lee and cc sabathia...didnt they play on a team together? ;)....stupid indians trade away all there best players

It's baseball, jcohl. I call American football "throwball" because how often do feet have anything to do with the ball? Kickoffs, punts, and extra points. That's it. Maybe one out of five plays involves the foot making contact with the ball (intentionally). Real football is over 95% feet. Hence, it is football and American football is throwball.

lol good point bsbiz
I'm kinda a Yanks hater (as well as most other "batball" fans outside of NY) If you can tell by my avatar Im a tigers fan which is why I was rooting for the Yanks vs the Twinkies, but thats it! If ur a real Yanks fan youll prolly like my avatar Huerta ;)

Meh. But congrats to the Yanks! (That was hard to type.)
Posted 4 months ago # -
No congrats here, you got what you paid for. If the game had a bit more of a level playing field, I might say woo, but nope, the sport is pretty bogus.
AL East team payrolls for 2009
Yankees $201,449,189
Red Sox $121,745,999
Rays $63,313,034
Toronto $80,538,300
Baltimore $67,101,666If the yanks or the red sox's dont make it, I point and laugh, so I guess you avoided that this year. The yanks pay $50,000,000 more than the 2nd highest paid team in all of baseball.
I will point and laugh at the Mets. Being the 2nd highest paid team, they should have finished above .432. Sorry mets fans, at least you arent the Cubs.

On the payroll thing. The yanks have been the highest paid for years, but that didn't help last year did it? If payroll was the only factor they would never lose. Look, I'm not a yuckies fan, not even a baseball fan, and hate the yanks, but to say that it's all about the payroll is ridiculous when they haven't won the series in a decade, and they have been the highest paid team that whole time.

Side note, my wife got to see the parade this morning, I believe. She's in NYC for work.
Posted 4 months ago # -
Justin, they're not the Yuckies. They are the Skankees.

I will reluctantly congratulate you huerta :)

Thank God Baseball Is Done!!!!! Lets Go PENQUINS!!!
Posted 4 months ago # -
Baseball is the only other sport I like so screw all the "batball" haters! jk jk
BTW what the he11 is a PENQUIN? ;)
Posted 4 months ago # -
Justin, you are exactly right. My point isn't that they buy a win, but they sure try.
With a payroll like that, they probably SHOULD win. I would expect that, and Yankee's fans expect it also. Maybe thats part of why I dislike them.
And no it did not help them last year. I sure did point and laugh last year.

not to mention the obnoxious yanks fanbase

@ Timcat: Go Hartford...I mean Carolina Hurricanes. Speaking of, we are just now getting some rain in from Ida down here in Charlotte. How's the RTP area looking Justin?

i was gonna ignore all the haters but i see i cant. 1st of all we love u haters thats y when the team is introduced they come out to the imperial death march we kno were the bad guys and we love goin to ur stadiums so u can have a sellout crowd. 2nd the payroll thing im sry the yankees want the best talent avalible and we have the money to get them. but u kno wat moneys half the equation the other half is playin for the most celebrated most winning team in baseball history. the tigers offer someone a mil to play for them and the yanks offer the same exact contract 9 times outta 10 the players gonna go wit the yanks because u dont step on a ball field when u play at yankee stadium u step on hallowed holy ground. and we should win every year even when we were payin shmucks like giambi? or carl pavano? randy johnson? this is the 1st yr in 7 or 8 that weve spent our money smart and it paid off. in sumation all u haters can sit back and enjoy the ride cuz were not stoppin. o and 27 world series u fans of baseball ur teams must b close to tha... o wait no ur not cuz we r the evil empire that rules the galaxy wit an iron clad fist so please continue to hate cuz it only makes us stronger.
Posted 4 months ago # -
lol point taken huerta.
I guess the only thing that would stop this argument is a salary cap. but I dont think the yanks would like that too much :pPosted 4 months ago # -
ether,
We're getting the rains as well, haven't paid enough attention to realize it was from Ida, oops.Posted 4 months ago # -
huertarogerhuerta,
your my boy and congrats that the Yankees won the World Series dude, but i neither like nor hate the Yankees, i am from San Francisco and only support The SF Giants even though they are not exactly the greatest team at the moment either way SIITB(SF IS IN THE BUILDING).
Posted 4 months ago # -
thats cool that u like sf. lincecom(sp?) is one of my fav pitchers not in pinstripes. dont worry bout how great they r cuz my giants rnt lookin to good either. the only time ill rag on u for ur baseball team is if ur a red sox fan. then u r my natural enemy. i dont worry bout the hate cuz ive been gettin hated on for being a yankee fan my entire life. i was so focused on the hate i forgot to thank the people who congradulated myself and my team (even if it was begrudgingly) so mk4, fr, lex, the devil, and jcohl thanx for ur congrats and heres looking forward to another good season next yr. and heres hoping my giants can turn it around this football season.

If a player is offered 1 mil for Detroit and 1 mil for NY, of course he will most likely go to New York. Even if his 1 mil isnt the lions share of the team's salary, playing for the higest paid team in baseball has its advantages. Who wouldnt want to play with the other greats in the sport. Its not only about your salary, its also about how good the team you will be on really is.
If baseball does inact a salary cap and teams compete evenly, I might gain interest again but when a 200,000,000 team can play a 34,000,000 team and somehow be playing the same sport, it's nothing I want to watch.
I am picking on the sport more than your team. If I owned a team and had limitless amounts of money to spend, I would do the same thing. The goal is to win, not spend less because others cant spend more. I dont fault them for that. I fault the sport. I gurantee though if I had a 400,000,000 team, my Tullyana Wyoming Grasshoppers would be the most feared team in baseball.... they would play crickets when we entered, and New York would wonder how the Big Apple could be plagued by some backwoods USA Grasshoppers.
I bet doubling a few Yankee's salaries would make them abandon your holy land for the arctic wonderland that is Wyoming, despite the fact that it has nothing like what Newe York has to offer.
The bottom line is money goes a LONG way and enough money can make almost anything happen.

Good on the Yanks for being able to have the biggest payroll in MLB. Says a lot about their fanbase (though deep-pocket owners have a bit to do with it). When the Jays got bought by Rogers (kind of like Canada's Ted Turner), I thought that maybe the Jays would turn it around and get me back into being a big baseball fan (I still go to at least 2 games a year cause their just plain fun). Though I'm disgruntled since the strike (it ruined our Jays!!!!!), I still can't hate the Yanks. It's capitalism at it's best. Ted Rogers dies last year (RIP), and so any hopes of big spending also sort of died (Ted was a HGUE baseball fan, not so his benefactors).
I just wish the NHL would drop the salary cap so our Leafs could become the Yankees of hockey, but that won't happen cause the NHL needs that cap to keep southern US teams competitive in the market. But that's just another thread for another site.

OOhhh...Rogers...NOW I get it eldiablo.
Everytime I'm in Toronto my cel service jumps to something called "Rogers", and I never really thought to ask what that was all about.
Once you dropped the Ted Turner comparison, I'm guessing they do more than own the stadium?
