Now as we all know the ufc is going through a tough time right now trying to figure what they can do to build all these cards up with all there champions being injured or under the weather, So imo there is an easy solution that will not only solve the problem for the ufc but will give also give some fighters the recongnition and money they deserve. Im proposing that the ufc could solve this problem by simply finallly giving the wec fighters the chances they deserve.....move the best lw to the ufc lw division, maybe even give the henderson/varner champ a match against bj to unify it;)......then take the featherweight and bantamweight divisions and move them to the ufc!...why? because this would not only solve the ufc's lingering injuries issue but would also give the wec fighters the chance to shine on the main stage they deserve......give casual fans a better chance to see stars like- urijah faber, mike brown, miguel torres, jose aldo, brian bowles, leonard garcia..etc..etc..etc....also give the wec lw's a better chance at better competition...I believe at least the top three wec lw's could survive and do well in the ufc lw division-donald cerrone, jaime varner, and bendo.....None of us can deny that the more and more events the ufc and zuffa put on the more fighters they are gonna need and unifying the wec and ufc would solve the problem easily!!!!!!...........so Come on dana, zuffa and mr.harris make THIS HAPPEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!

man when cantwell was introduced he wasn't even the co main event on a fight night, the wec champs would have barely any draws among casual fans

i agree but also bring the Flywieghts into the picture also i would love to see 125lbs make it!
Posted 2 weeks ago # -
Or they could just aquire Strikforce. But then wed be seeing Fedor fight butterbean or some other top talent.

Gun,
Not hatin' on this idea (because I like all those WEC fighters) but im assuming the casual fan wouldn't care to see the WEC fighters in the UFC because they are not familiar with them. See what im saying?
Posted 2 weeks ago # -
I disagree on the casual fans. There are a lot of casual fans that watch the WEC on Versus.

i agree justin and lex, the wec fighters are gonna have to come over eventually...why not make it now......how does it sound and introducing the reining defending ufc featherweight champion of the world mike thomas brown!.....casual fans would instantly know who these people are and this is the only way to help solve the ufcs problems or else we are gonna have at least 1 or 2 ppv with no championship fights on in a row

I'm not sure I like the idea of adding two new weight classes to the UFC right away. The PPVs so far usually only have 4-5 fights on TV and those are usually key fights. Two more weight classs means like 30 new fighters and unless UFC puts on two big events a month, that's just too many fighters under exclusive UFC contracts. What we're having trouble with now is mostly the headliners getting hurt. I can't see Mike Brown headlining a UFC ppv any time soon.
Does UFC have the rights to WEC tapes, or does Versus? If so they could have a wicked WEC marathon on SPIKE. If that happens, the public will become more aware of the smaller guys and more likely to want to see them on PPV.

Zuffa probably owns the tapes, but there is a contract between Versus and WEC to air WEC on Versus.

Don't forget guys the WEC cage is smaller, so that would need to be worked out.

I suggest that there be tournaments for 185 and 170 to buy some time and meaybe have a 4 or 6 man tournament at Heavyweight, that would be killer awesome and would keep fans intereted i think because BJ is the only active champ right now and there are only so many guys that can be main even caliber and can put butts on seats.

The only fighter marketable in the WEC is Faber. Miguel Torres would of been the other fighter the mast marketable but he lost. Look at what happened when Condit made the jump. He was untouchable in the WEC. What happened? He lost to Martin Kampmen. Big difference in level of compitition. In WEC Condit world beater, in UFC , just another fighter! I'm not hating, I'm just sayin' !!!

I truly beieve that the WEC is on a great network. Versus has the NH and is geared towards the targeted demographic just as much as Spike does if not more. Zuffa is smart. They created the business model and they woud be foolish to give up a the revenue from both TV deals.

Timcat,
The availability of Versus is a lot less than Spike though. On some carriers they are on a higher tier, and they are not available on DirecTV.Posted 2 weeks ago # -
@ mk4 - not that I think your idea is a bad one, but I remember reading [I think] last year in an MMA magazine that Dana hates tourney-type set-ups, so I'm thinking we won't be seeing one in the UFC anytime soon.
While traditional business education would suggest that the Zuffa collapse the WEC into the UFC to promote the stronger brand, in this particular case I would find that a mistake.
I do believe that someday the WEC will be incorprated into the UFC, but until such time that the Versus contract expires, it would be yet another headache that Dana White can currently live without.
And yeah, it would probably be more trouble that its worth, because outside of Urijah Faber, I don't know of a single WEC fighter, maybe other than Miguel Torres, that could bump PPV numbers and put a$$es in seats...Posted 2 weeks ago # -
Justin,
direct TV sucks! They are holding Versus hostage. Unless it is a clear day the signal is bad. If it rains, no service. If the wind blows too hard, no sevice. If it snows, well you get the point. I had DTV and the Dish Network both were terrible.

They'd better not do anything with Versus any time soon. I just got Versus in HD...

Since were talking about the WEC what do you guys think Faber should do?
I wouldnt mind seeing him fight Brown again. Or Aldo if he takes it. A cut to 135 for a fight with Bowles would be nice. A 140 cathweight fight with Torres would be sick. Or just a jump to the UFC's 155 div isnt completly out of the question. The guy has alot of options right now thats for sure.Posted 1 week ago # -
I think Faber's best bet for $$$ would be to jump up to LW. Although to the best of my research he's never fought at LW, he did fight Tyson Griffin at bantamweight, and so if one guy can make the jump, why not both?
Tourneys in the UFC over several PPVs would be awesome and worthwhile, not like the "If Rothwell wins, he might be in the picture, if Velasquez wins he's probably a #1 contender" type of talk the UFC does nowadays. Come on, let us know that the fights mean something. I like the way Bellator does things.

@ eldiablo - I'm not saying that a UFC tourney wouldn't rock, I'm just saying that unless I misread or am somehow misremembering that Dana White article I read, we won't be seeing any UFC tourneys anytime soon.
If Dana doesn't like, it doesn't happen.
After all, by now we all know that the UFC is his personal fight club, right?
;)As for Urijah Faber, I think financially the best thing for him to do is jump over to the UFC, and jump up to 155. Joe Silva would have a field day with trying to suss out if he should sign Faber-Maynard or Faber-Sherk or Faber-Stevenson or Faber-Guida or Faber-Sanchez or Faber-Florian...you get the picture...
Posted 1 week ago # -
Yeah, unfortunately it's all about Dana. I'm old school and love those tourneys.
Faber at LW has infinite possibilities.
Posted 1 week ago # -
tourneys are good in the sense that joe silva and dana white get a break from declaring #1 contenders and promising title shots, but i think the depth of talent at each weight class leave for too much of a crowded room when and not enough bracket to go around
Posted 1 week ago # -
And to follow up, between injuries incurred in the cage and during training, it could take over a year to allow that tournament to resolve itself into a champion.
Posted 1 week ago # -
A rematch with Griffin would be awesome as Tyson has openly discussed his disdain for Faber. Im not sure what the beef is all about between them but it seems that there is definately something going on there. If anybody knows the details that would be sweet.

@Timcat,
I have Time Warner Cable, and they certainly have their problems as well (No NFL network, no HDNet) and thankfully I believe I have a third option available (to satellite and cable), but I have to look into it more deeply (AT&T U-verse.. or whatever it is). However, there are parts of the country where the only option is dish or DirecTV, where I grew up most people have satellite and not cable for the simple reason that cable is not available.Posted 1 week ago #
