i think it isn't fair for cain beacuse shawn was supposed to fight him but but shawn got to fight for the title even though i was think that shawn was going to win like most people but what if he wasn't so cain kind of got robbed his chance for the title he'll still get one eventually just not as fast. what are your guy's thoughts?

Fortunately I popped in seconds or minutes after that post touched down and got to have my first, first post on a big topic. (woot woot) And I said it sucks for Cain, and Randy imo.
At first this was of some major concern for me and I almost started a forum topic on it myself. After hearing alot of ppls input though, most decisively for me was dbiz and jcohls thoughts on it, I think that from multiple perspectives its the right call. Letting Brock sit at the top of the mountain pounding his chest is a waste I think. Cain isn't really getting d!cked here, actually he's getting a huge break. Just think, if he would've fought Carwin and lost (which even you agree is the most likely outcome of that fight) he would've got knocked back down the ladder and had to fight 1-3 more times for another shot. If the current rumor is true now he gets a guaranteed shot after Shane no matter what. Its a win for the fans, a win for Carwin, a win for Cain, a winning scenario for Dana and company's bottom line, and a big fat L for Brock. After second glance I like it, EXCEPT...
What about Randy?? His retirement definitely has to be on the horizon, although he's still pumping out good performances, this has to slow down, and sometime in the not too distant future. With Shane and Cain set for consecutive shots at the title what if Randy wins once or twice in meantime and doesn't get an opportunity to get one last title shot? An injury, his biological clock, family or other issues could intervene and I know he would love to retire with the belt or after having won the belt again. If any of those things happen and Randy has to retire w/o one last big beltshot bang, I would be sad and p!ssed. Kinda think the way things have been going in HW as of late if he beats Nog then he's a title contender, and should be before Cain. Thats the only real problem I have with this scenario and its a tenuous one so no big deal for now.

Randy is fighting Big NOG and well wont be ready til 2010 and has one fight left on his contract I believe and he wants that to be an epic match... What if he once again regains the title and once again retires then what?
Plus wouldn't Randy have to beat Big NOG to even think about a title shot against anyone? Are you looking over Big NOG, he is close to a shot as well if he beats Couture... I think everyone is complaining about nada titi zero but that is me stressed out and typing apologies to all

even if i was 37-0 in the ufc at heavywieght, hadn't gotten a title shot, and was next in line.... And then randy couture said let me have one more shot at the belt, i dont think i would mind stepping to the sde for that.
Thats IF randy beats big nog.
IF that happens i dont think that cain, carwin, or anyone else would be to ticked off if they get held off on their title shot if Randy wanted one last shot for his FINAL fight. Thats oing to be the biggest UFC ever... if randy beats Nog and gets Brock for his Final Octagon apperance. Plus didnt they make chuck wait so shamrock could lose to tito?

I think cain got played dude. He just whooped on a contender in kongo who was higher ranked than gonzaga, who carwin ko’d. But i’m tired of talking about who should be fighting who and why. I’m not even a fan of cain. Is it too much to ask for as a fan, to see true champions crowned? By true, i mean fighting to the top and beating the champ. Basically earning your spot. I’ve always defended the fact that brock is a one of a kind physical specimen and that’s why he can hang with the best, but never that he was deserving of the championship. Just thought i’d say that before all this bashing started.
So again, like someone once told me, let’s leave the business to silva and dana and let’s enjoy all of these great matchups.

No need to emphasize the if, I said "IF" he beats Nog as well in my prior post. I'm rooting for Randy but realize his chances aren't huge, but I believe he has an overall marginal edge.

jazzkok, i find it hard to say cain whooped on kongo....he almost got ko'd by kongo at the begining of ever round and almost ko'd thirty seconds in...if kongo had had any wrestling at all cain would have lost that fight....if kongo can rock cain and make him fall to his knees then carwin would have gladly detroyed him with one punch...id rather see carwin vs cain anyways if it was for the title, if carwin beats lesnar and thinking if cain can beat rothwell...because big ben is good enough to beat cain and i think he just might

I've mentioned this over in the commentaries, but I'll re-post it here for the benefit of the Velasquez supporters.
Please consider, before you come to the conclusion that your man got screwed:- if the rumors are true, Velasquez has secured a title shot WITHOUT having to fight Carwin, which was sort of the point of their scheduled bout.
- Velasquez remains undefeated, and thus emminently more marketable, going into an eaiser fight with Ben Rothwell. Most agree that if Velasquez, with his current skillset and just 6 fights under his belt, had in fact fought Carwin, he would have gotten silverback'ed in the first round.
- Velasquez, by taking his step-over like a man, and not b*tching about it like a hormonal 20-something sk@nk on a reality show, gains the good will of the front office. Just ask Rich Franklin how valuable it can be to your career to have the promotion "owe you one", so to speak.
- Velasquez gains another 6 months or so of training and experience before getting his first big opportunity, and believe me, he needs it. Mr Brown Pride has a world of talent and potential, but he really needs to develop his stand-up and find more effective ways of utilizing his NCAA All-American level of wrestling in the cage. He looked only so-so against Kongo, who is pretty much a one-dimensional fighter, and who if memory serves took the fight on short notice [apologies if I have that wrong]. Velasquez looks great after 6 pro fights, but Carwin has nearly double that, superior wrestling AND way better striking. Lesnar would in all likelihood kill Velasquez in about 3 minutes, so his career is better served on multiple levels by shifting it into a lower gear for now.
It works out best for Velsaquez to allow silverbacks Lesnar and Carwin decide exactly who is king of the jungle, and then he can start training specifically to beat the winner.
Once the furor dies down, Velsquez and his supporters will realize that Dana White just did them a huge favor, and they should never look this particular gift horse in the [foul] mouth...

"even if i was 37-0 in the ufc at heavywieght, hadn't gotten a title shot, and was next in line.... And then randy couture said let me have one more shot at the belt, i dont think i would mind stepping to the sde for that."
If you were as hypercomepetitive as you would need to be to 1) get to 37-0 and 2) be in the UFC, you wouldn't just "step aside" to let someone else have a crack at the title shot you should have been screaming for thirty fights ago.
Imagine the most hyper-competitive person you know, then magnify that by at least one, probably two, orders of magnitude, and that's what each and every successful UFC fighter is (and every other successful athlete).
Oh, and not to sound too personal, if a situation ever occurred with a fighter reaching 37-0 without a title shot, someone in the matchmaking department at the UFC would have gotten sued for malpractice about thirty fights ago.

I was being exagerative, lets be honest, even IF randy beats Big Nog, he has one fight left on his contract which very well could be his last. Would you as a fan want to watch him go out of the business fighting Cro Cop, or Brock?
Posted 7 months ago # -
Considering there are more necessary contenders for the heavyweight belt, Cro-Cop.

its good for cain to be bypassed on this one. i didnt think he wouldve fared well against carwin, i thought the fight would be over in the first minute... why? well kongo rocked cain, and i believe carwin has more power than kongo so yea... i love the idea of carwin-brock, as i believe carwin is the one guy right now that can neutralize brock's wrestling and size advantage. they are about the same weight, carwin seems leaner, but carwin also has more striking power imo. randy rocked brock, and mir did as well. imagine someone who has more pop in their punches going against brock as well as being the same size and being just as good a wrestler... dont give me the D-1 vs D-2 argument. GSP didnt wrestle at all in high school or college and he has argurably the best wrestling in mma. not to mention the rumor of him competing for the 2012 olympics for canada.
i will name my unborn son shane or carwin if carwin beats brock.

@ bigchris2328 - I thought because you lost that bet to Gunslinger you had to name your unborn son Spider??
;)
And as to the open Couture question, I would have to say that I'd like to see the Natural leave the sport with some dignity, and preferably with back to back wins over BigNog and CroCop.
I don't think that is going to happen, unfortunately. I think if Couture beats BigNog, he'll get the winner of Mir-Kongo, which most likely means Mir, which is a match-up I don't like for Couture.
If Couture loses to BigNog, I think he should just quietly retire, and finally admit that age catches up with all of us in the end, even Capt. America...Posted 7 months ago # -
thankfully i dont have to name him spider. im actually leaning towards maximus or leonidas[the 300 king of SPPPAAARRRTTTAAA!!!], but if shane were to beat brock i will name my first son shane. or maybe throw carwin in as his middle name... maximus carwin, leonidas carwin, maximus would probably win out like that. i like the leonidas name because its versatile, [leo, leon].
i thought you wouldve joined the carwin wagon j, dare i say you are rooting for brock in this matchup? or are you just trying not to get all steamed until the fight is a week out?

@ bigchris2328, or Spider -
DEFINITELY not rooting for Brock Lesnar, but I am trying to be a bit more objective in my breakdowns of his fights. I was off-base on both his Couture fight and his second Mir fight, and even went as far as to question the veracity and relevence of a video in a Justin post because it didn't fall in line with my super-narrow viewpoint.
After that, I realized I was letting my heart get in the way of my head when it came to analyzing fights, PARTICULARLY Lesnar fights, so I've tried being a bit more level-headed moving forward.
Objectively I see Lesnar winning the fight, probably by ref stoppage in the second round. Unfortunately.
Subjectively I would like to see the cage door close, Herb Dean ask both guys if they are ready, and call it a go. Then I would like to see Carwin hit Lesnar with a shot that causes Lesnar's bowels to release in full view of the arena, and then have the belt fastened around Carwin's waist by Dana White while Lesnar is still wiping himself and asking his wife, "baby, what happened? And what do you mean I have to move out and that Shane Carwin is your new man?!"...
