Aaron Simpson. The Next WW Champ.

Im starting up the A-train band wagon and anybody who wants on better come quick cause within a couple fights this guy isnt going to be invisble anymore. I know some of you will think im crazy but when I look at Aaron and how young he is in his MMA career it reminds me of when GSP himself first came to the UFC and I said to myself "man that guy is gonna be good" as did everyone else of course. But at age 35 the time is now for this guy. He has dispacthed of everyone in front of him and is showing no signs of slowing down. Mark my words this guy will crush people.

Aaron is a WW disguised as a MW make no mistake about it. Compare him two guys like Franklin and Marquardt and you will see what I mean. Then look at guys like Rumble or Riddle who are bigger than him and its obvious this guy is in the wrong weight class.

His skill set right now is still in development as he is still shy of 2 years deep into his MMA career. And thats what is so crazy. At not even 2 years this guy has gone undefeated all 6 fights finished by TKO, and four of them in the first round. He hasnt truly been tested yet but the couple decent opponents hes faced havnt even stood a chance.

Simpson stormed on to the scene in the UFC. Short Fuse has never been an amazing fighter but Ive never seen anyone throw him a beating like that(barring Maia's BJJ clinic) Aaron threw him around like he was a featherweight and dropped him several times with decent striking. Aaron is a wild man and leaves himself exposed but the guy is so fast so explosive and so strong it doesnt seem to matter cause all a vet like Herman could do was land an up kick.

I think someone or Simpson himself will realize he's one of the smallest MW and make the cut down to WW. There I see him being unstoppable and would give him the best shot at taking down GSP. Hes got the wrestling background to stop a couple takedown's but more importantly the speed power and explosiveness thats lacking in the WW contenders. He seems to combine Thiago's power in his hands Swicks speed, GSP's functional streagth and an agression level and explosiveness all to his own.

It seems the UFC is searching under every rock and every closet to fiind someone to challenge GSP for his title. while the man who will do it is just upstairs in the middle weight division.

nice write up carls,

i don't mean to burst your bubble, although i like Aaron Simpson and the dude has looked impressive especially the things you mentioned of him not even being in MMA for two years yet and doing what he has done going undefeated and all, but i don't think the dude would be able to beat Alves,Kampmann,Fitch or even Rumble, i think the dude would get destroyed not to mention he'll get killed badly by GSP. I like the dude and think that he is a very talented fighter at 185, but i think it's kinda far fetched that he'll ever even make it to a title shot, let a lone a #1 Contenders match...but that's just me.

First your boy would have to move to WW, and like you said he's not getting any younger, but i don't see him moving down to 170 unless requested by UFC management. The dude is still growing and does have potential to make some noise at some point but i feel that it will be at 185 not 170, at 170 most guys are still in their 20's and are already bad mother**** so i honestly don't feel he'll be able to hang with them.

And not to crap in anyone's corn flakes, but I just don't see Simpson taking the WW title anytime in the next few years, unless GSP's mothership returns to Earth and beams him back to go home to the planet of MMA phenoms.
The Greatness just turned 28 back in May, and looks to dominate at 170 until such time that he either retires from the sport, or God forbid is injured beyond the ability to compete.
At Simpson's age, and relative late to the 170 party situation, if he shows at all, I just don't see it happening. Assuming he's cleared by Dana to drop to 170, he'd have to go thru a gauntlet of challangers like Fitch, Alves, Koscheck, Swick, Johnson, Hughes, or Kampmann, any of which would be more than a tough fight for Simpson.
Yes, Simpson can be an exciting fighter to watch, and yes Simpson is definitely "in the mix" at 185, but cutting to 170 and winning the title before he hits 40?
Sorry carls, usually I get where you are coming from, but on this one I'm just not seeing it...

Gun, Lex thanks for hoppin on next stop the front door to the WW div.

Now on to Marvel and Jcohl. Marvel I think you need to watch his other fights again, and his one with Herman again. There are few guys in the world who move like that. Within 2 seconds he crossed the cage closed the gap smashed Herman plowed him into the cage picked him up and slammed him. Hard. Who is doing stuff like that right now. Only the best in the UFC. This guys biggest problem is that hes 35, but i belive hes got the Couture syndrome, this dude moves like hes 22 and kacked up on red bulls and some "extra" stuff. Think back to all the tough guys Herman has fought. He11 Belcher has KOed alot of guys and hit Herman with everything he had and IMO lost the split decision(clos fight though) and this "old man" dropped him. Aaron is smaller ond older than Ed but yet he threw him around like Brock does his wife after a day of hunting. Think about it guys regardless of age when we get someone in the UFC who is a freak of nature they allways do well. The super gifted like BJ the super athletes like GSP, the wrestlers like Hughes, monsters like Brock, Karate's finest in Lyoto, Anderson is a fighter all to his own. Now im not saying he is as good as these guys skill for skill, but he does have the few tools required to give GSP someting hes never seen before. In all reality GSP wouls likely sub him or take it to a dec, but there is no doubt in my mind that my fellow canadian would be alittle uncomfortable with this train of agression coming right at him.

dude i see your points on Simpson, i don't disagree on that at all, the dude is a really impressive fighter right now, but come you seriously think he can make a run at 170? Reality is right now he's at 185, i havn't heard him mention that he indeed will go down to 170 and even if he does, he'll have to beat guys like Kampmann,Alves Koscheck,Swick,Fitch and if he does make it to the final level of Mortal Komabt to face the greatness in GSP, he'll get destroyed end of story, GSP will bust his fatality on him faster than "Ivan Drago from Rocky 4 lookalike",faster than that 7 second ko.
This dude is taklented but NOT even CLOSE to being as good as cleaning out the 170 division and taking out GSP. Alves would have him seeing stars withing 2 minutes and Fitch will do him like he did Pauolo Thiago and Rumble will knock him out faster than he did the fu*king Farm Boy.

Asron Simpson is a super talented dude, but at age 35, he has no chacne to do what you think he can do.

Your lost Marvel, and in your attempt to make jokes your making bad points. Simpson is a more accomplished wrestler than Fitch with more years at it as well. Look it up. Plus Fitch's stand up isnt great and would likely get beat there to. Alvez would be his biggest test though.

Seiously watch his fight with Herman again. Nobody has athleticism like that except GSP. When he came out like a connon ball and smashed Herman then slammed him my mouth dropped. Give him a year or two you will see bud.

let me make this clear, i think that Aaron Simpson is a really good fighter, but your talking as if he's already made the move to 170 which he has not. The dude is at 185 and that is the reality right now. His win against Herman was impressive but to be honest Ed Herman has never been a top Contender, now if Simpson were to beat a dude like Maia then i would say he has arrived, but that is at 185. If he does move to 170 it would take him a few months to do so and by that time he would problably be 36 years old and i'm assuming as if he were to do this now, but if he does go down to 170 my bet is it will be sometime next year when guys like Rumble,Kym,Brown, by that time thses guys are going to be way better than what they are now and so will Simpson but non the less he will have his hands full. Even, lets just say if he did by some sort of alignment of the Planets and Dimensions make it to a title shot with GSP, do you really in your hones opinion think he at age problably 37-38 keep up with a 29 or 30 year old in his Prime better than ever GSP?..let alone keep up with his pace???......no my friend it is you not I who is lost.

he should do what GSP did to matt hughes. he'll face him in th first match and loss but in the second he'll win and in the third. while the first one he can't look into his during the stair down.

Just to add to what mk4 has already posted, I want to be galss clear when I say that I think Simpson is a quality fighter, and a has a real shot in the 185 division, especially if he gets with the right strength and conditioning coach that can help him compensate for some of the 220ers who rough cut to 185 for the weigh-in.
Simpson strikes me as more of a TRUE MW, and not what I consider a shrinking man MW, such as Anderson Silva and Hendo.

Once this Hendo/Marquardt/Silva thing resolves itself, the UFC is going to be eyeballing their radar to find the next contending 185er, and thats where I think Simpson can get noticed. It's not like Gunslinger is the only guy to see what Simpson did to the Ginger Ninja, so I'm sure Joe Silva has a mental post-it note stuck somewhere referencing Simpson.
The 170 division offers WAY too many challanges with WAY too few opportunities in comparison with the 185 set. Once Silva makes up his mind if, where, and at what weight he wants to fight again, the 185ers will finally see some movement within the ranks.
Its entirely possible if Silva decides to finish his last 3 fights at 205 or HW, we'll see a new champion, and more contenders being called up.
He11, Rich Franklin might drop back down to 185 if Silva decides his last 2 matches are against a 205er and a HW, so yeah, Simpson should DEFINITELY stay tuned to that channel for further developments at they used to say...

If Simpson were to ever even step into the ssme cage as GSP, this is how i see things going:

Herb Dean will realize that after a few minutes Simpson is done and instead of stopping the fight he'll look at GSP and say "FINISH HIM", then GSP will proceed to make this Ryu and Ken type gesture...you know right before they throw their haduken fireball, but GSP will instead throw ice like Sub Zero...Simpson will be entirely frozen..then GSP will do a 360 Jean Claude Van Damme spin kick and fu*k Simpson up and then Simpson will be dead and Herb Dean will suddenly turn into Shang Sung and say "St. Pierre wins..Flawless Victory...FATALITY"..and then and there Simpson will have realized that his best bet was at 185.

Seriously the dude is super cool and humble and i'm personally rooting for him to make a run towards the top because he ain't getting any younger and i believe he has the skills to do so so good luck to him, but he shouldn't go down to 170, competition there i feel is too tough and that is my stand on that,

--The Mortal Kombat thing was just for fun, i hope nobody takes it too personal. :-)

while i usually agree with you carls and yes im on atrains war wagon but....he cant afford to be given a few years to work his way up...he has to work his way up the ufc's mdw or ww division now! if he expects to be a champion because believe it or not the dude is 35..he really doesnt have much time left...he needs the fast track to the title shot so he needs to be fighting contenders contenders contenders! and fast!

You guys act like hes gonna be coming out on a medi-chair for his next fight. There are plenty of fighters who are in their mid thirties and are whoopin a$$. This guy like said has the Henderson Couture curse where he doesnt show his age in his abilities in the cage which mean more at the end of the day than someones years on this earth. Like I said at the start im starting up the wagon, and we will all see where he's at in his next fight when he likely crushes whoever it is. But when this guy puts a hurtin on a champ weather it be a MW or a WW one you all owe me some beers and coffee if we ever cross paths.

Just remember I was the only one who told you all that Maia would get destroyed and not one person was on my side. So we will see folks we will see.
