I just want to take this opportunity to talk about Season 10 of TUF. After watching that 8 minute video post here on Frenzy i have a few things on my mind.

1. Roy Nelson, the dude for some reason thinks he is someone special and is clearly trying to force the audience to look at him as something more important than the rest of the cast members. "I though i was the big announcment, but Dan brings in Kimbo Slice"....Roy Big Kegger Nelson, i immediately dislike this guy because he feels he's better than the rest of the guys who are in the SAME boat as he is, Roy Nelson, if he's so special then how come he has to go through TUF to get into the UFC? Why wasn't he just brought in like his boy Ben Rothwell? "the difference between me and the rest of the guys is that i'm a professional, when it comes to team pickin i'd like to think that i'm tops of the tops....yeah tops"...doesn't that sound a bit cocky, arrogant and lack of humility Big Country?, like my boy jcohl said, you better check yourself before you wreck yourself buddy because all the other guys including my new found boy Kimbo, all of them are in waaayy better shape then you, they are more grounded and humble and are not taking anyone lightly, and they look hungrier than you my friend so you better check yourself before Herb Dean wakes you up in the Octagon after getting put to sleep via a Kimbo right hook pal...I liked you Roy Nelson, i thought you were decent but now because you think you are god's gift to TUF and you lack sportsmanship i find myself hoping to see you face Kimbo so you can back up your talk dude.

2. Right off the bat this looks to be the funniest and problably most entertaining season simply due to Rampage and Rashad's beef and $hit talk. Rampage is always a funny and entertaining dude and Evans feeds on that also. I love it man, i can't wait to see this season and thanks for MMA FRENZY for giving us this sneak peak/

3. All of the fighters seem more professional(at least right now) than other seasons and look to really be taking this chacne seriously problably because the Heavyweight division in the UFC has taken center stage recently. But non the less, these guys look ready and willing to test their limits and do what they have to do.

4. Kimbo Slice, i said it once and i'll say it again, i don't nor have ever enjoyed street fighting UNLESS it's me whipping a$$ with Ryu-Ken or Akuma, but i res[ect Kimbo for not taking the easy way road after Elite-XC and stepping up to accept Dana WHite and all the Kimbo hater's challenge to be "legit". I dig that and i'm rooting for the dude to have a decent showing because i love a great story, i love to see a dude come from nothing with incredible odds and make it to the top the right way and have vindication, i love that kind of $hit. Kimbo has a tough road, but i am rooting for the dude and win or lose, i feel that after this he should feel proud and and all the haters should give him respect for at least giving it a go like real warriors dude, i know i sound like a super Kimbo fan but truth is i love underdogs that can rise to the occasion and do something special that he is in a position to do.

swankcm on "new TUF coaches"

I know I have said this before but with the next season of tough approaching and me haiting the idea of GSP and hardy coaching here is what I am thinking........

Renzo Gracie vs Jeremy Horn (I know Horn is heavier)

I think that The UFC could sell the idea of them fighting at the end Horn has been in and out of the UFC, and Renzo doesn't really need to fight any top guys at 170 right off the bat but they both could bring in great coaching elements for the fighters. Two different styles. And I wouldn't mind seeing fight in the cage at the end.

(fixed the title. -Justin H)

So now that Mclovin if out of an opponent(thanks to everyones favorite fighter the "heat") Im wondering who he will be fighting next.
He said that he hopes to get on a future card soon, so I think a fight between him and Swick at UFC 108 or 109 would be awesome. That would depend on how fast a turnaround Mike would want. 108 currently only has a four fight main card and 10 fights overall so that could work.
Matt Brown is another possibility and is coming off a good win at 105.
Against Swick I think dustin would be in trouble on the feet but Id pick him to sub Brown in the first or second. Either way I hope to see the guy back in the cage soon as he is allways fun to watch.

Sorry, meant to get this posted yesterday, but I was having both log in issues and real life issues, which are about to get my current gf "Kim Couture'd"...
;)

The fights themselves were mostly good stuff, and Jose Aldo easily got the "holy sh!t" award for the night. Thankfully the PS3'ing and other distractions were kept to a minimum, and even most of the females tucked in and concentrated [mostly] on the fights.
Was a long night, with both WEC 44 and TUF on the DVR afterwards, so I tried banging out some dishes that would keep for awhile and reheat fairly well.
Also, we had almost 20, so I didn't want to do anything too plate/service-specific, and I was in the mood for French for a lot of different reasons.
Here's the bill of fare, as they used to say back in the 1950's, or when Randy Couture was the MMA rookie of the year :)

Wine
- Carignon Burgundy [of course]
- Liebfraumilch, a German semi-sweet white wine that tends to pair well with chicken Provencal, although a cold beer is better IMO.

Beer
- Boddingtons
- Kronenbourg
- Michelob Winter cask Bourbon Ale

Starters
- a small wheel of slowly warmed Camembert
- goat cheese and red wine spread
- rice crackers [both plain and wasabi]
- French onion soup with garlic baguette croton and Jarlsberg cheese

Main
- beef bourguignon
- chicken Provencal

Desserts
- a huge box of red velvet cake squares from Swiss Colony [that wound up starting all of the drama which precluded me from posting this earlier] brought by my ex gf and her roommate
- creme caramel in individual ramekins
- Remy Martin cognac [but not the stuff that goes for like 3g's a bottle, but rather the VSOP, which goes for like 60 a bottle]

MMAweekly has this to say

Karo "The Heat" Parisyan is out of UFC 106 after failing to acquire a license in Nevada, according to Parisyan, due to not having the money to pay his fine from previously being suspended after testing positive for a three different pain killers following his UFC 94 bout with Kim Dong-hyun.

"There’s a lot of problems going on. They won’t re-license me unless I (expletive) pay them," Parisyan told MMAWeekly.com. "I had to pay the $32,000 fine in order to fight. I never paid because I never had the money. I don’t know if I’ll be able to come back."

MMAjunkie throws this out there

"Keith Kizer said Karo was, in fact, licensed and they had worked out a deal to have him pay fine out of UFC 106 purse. Weird."

Josh Gross said this

"Karo Parisyan via text confirmed he won’t be fighting Saturday. He declined to answer any questions."

MarvelKnight4 on "Machida-Shogun 2"

Machida is going to have to change up the way he;s going to attack Shogun because if Machida fights the same way all Shogun has to do is implement his same game plan as the first fight.

Machida doesn’t really use hooks or roundhose punches but uses more straight punches which is why Shogun was able to block them so well.

Machida’s stance aloowed Shogun to get him with all those leg kicks so whether Machida wants to accept it or not he really is going to have to change a couple of things before this fight or else he’ll once again be on the receiving end of some brutal leg kicks again.

Shogun should work more on his takedown offense this time around because i’m sure tha Machida will be expecting leg kicks and might want to reverse that on Shogun.

I’m sure that both Machida and Shogun won’t let this fight go to a decision especially Shogun because he does not want to get robbed twice.

Shogun needs to stay out of Machida’s range but keep it at just the rifght distance so he can still score some leg kicks. What Shogun should also do is work more on his Boxing because if Machida indeed does exppect leg kicks then he’ll problably have his hands a bit lower than usual in anticipation of leg kicks where then Shogun could capitalize and try to do some damage with his hands.

Machida needs to press the fight waaay more this time and put some pressure on Shogun and maybe Machida needs to try and go to the ground because that might be the last thing that the Shogun camp expects. Machida also needs to change up his stance if he wants to avoid getting kicked all night and also should focus on hooks and over hand punches that can penetrate Shogun’s blocks because the reason why Shogun blocked all of Machida’s punches is because Machida was only throwing straight punches and predictable uppercuts that Shogun saw a mile away.

I’m almost sure that Machida will try and use his style of kicks in this fight to set-up his combination of left kick-straight punch, but i’ll bet that we’ll see a very different approach from Machida this time around but not so much of a different approach from Shogun because this time Machida is the one that will have to adapt to Shogun’s style not the other way around.

This fight will end in the 1st or 2nd roung by ko for sure..

Shogun via tko or ko in the 1st or early 2nd.

Just incredible Takedown defence, Great stand up. Brown hit Aldo with some good shots but credit to Aldo again for being able to take a good shot. Kind of reminded me of BJ vs Florian but with a different finish. Brown(Kenflo) was going trying for a takedown a good part of the fight, then all of a sudden Aldo(BJ) says "fu<k this", This is how you takedown a guy and finishs the fight on the back of his opponent.

I cann't wait for Faber to get a shot at Aldo ,should make for a good match.

Due to the announcment of the Gracie vs. Hughes fight I would like to start a thread and get some input from the frenZy on some legend fights they would like too see in the near future. I'm talking about guys who arn't relevant to title contention but have had long successfull careers who are past their prime but still have fight left in them.

My first example is Lidell vs. Coleman.

Aaaawwww yeah... I'm getting geeked up. It is time for the WEC.

We greet you from the fight capitol of the world. Welcome to Bsbiz's living room. And our supreme announcers, Todd Harris and Frank Mir will be here to guide you through the evening's festivities. Brown/Aldo will be good, and I'm just excited. Hee hee hee... I'm almost as giddy as jcohl organizing Randy Couture's sock drawer.

Kerr vs Shalorus

Never heard of either one of these guys. Ahhh. There's the Mazz. I've missed him and his ridiculous stand-ups. That said, he is better than some of the guys in England last weekend. Big right from Shalorus. Kerr going for leg locks and it got him standing again. Mir points out that Kerr is nto looking good. Oops. Did he just punch you in the face? Here, let me get out my cellular. Oh, wait. I don't have a phone. 'Cause I'm a writeup. So... Man that's an annoying commercial.

Did anyone notice that since Budweiser was sold to that Belgian company (InBev) that suddenly there is stuff like Bud Wheat beer and other things that are eerily reminiscent of European beer? Not that I'm saying anything bad. I hated Bud before and will continue to prefer British beers over most American stuff, but it was just an observation.

I don't know if there is someone with sweeter pipes than Joe Martinez. Bruce is good, but I like Joe better. Oh, and don't even get me started on the Mir/Rogan debate. If you could even begin to call it a debate. That was a good debut for Shalorus. He was efficient and brutal in his beatdown of Kerr, who may or may not have a second fight in the WEC. You'd like hiim to get a second shot (under the "Anything can happen once in a cage" principle) to see if that was a fluke or whether he really isn't up to snuff.

Dang it's cold in here. My nipples could cut glass right now and my fingernails are purple. This needs to be remedied.

Roller vs Castillo

Shane Roller sounds like a professional wrestling name. I mean that in a good way. It's kind of a kick-**** name. Maybe it's just the cage, but these lightweights look a lot bigger than UFC lightweights. Like they look taller and just physically bigger. These guys certainly haven't made Mir work for his money tonight. Nice shoot by Roller and nice defense by Castillo. What a reversal by Roller. Some ground and pound, but Roller was never really put into too much danger. Round for Castillo.

Nice body shots by Castillo. Mir has put Roller on notice about leaving his left hand low. Of course, if he's on his back, he doesn't have to worry about it. Excellent knee. Great mount work for Roller and now he has Castillo's back. Wow, Castillo really ate a bunch of punches, but Roller looked like he got really tired and flopped off and ended up taking a little damage at the end. Round for Roller, definitely.

That round there illustrated why I like Mir much more than Rogan. He explained some of the things to look for and was able to provide more insight than is normally obtainable from anyone other than "fanboi." Let's see how this round goes. Those body shots by Castillo are really doing damage. Castillo almost fell into two triangles and is now working on falling into a third. Mount for Castillo, but it was released by threat of armbar. Nice throw by Roller, who immediately gets warned again for punches to the back of the head. Nice work by Roller on the back getting the choke that escaped him in the second. That was a quality fight. Castillo looked good, but looked a little vulnerable when he wasn't in the dominant position. Both times Roller was able to get the dominant position in the fight, he did serious damage. He put some beating on Castillo in the second and the choke in the third. For Castillo, a little bit of work on his defensive work is needed, and for Roller, he's got to work on his stand-up. His wrestling is good and he has some good defense and obviously, his chokes are good, but his stand up needs some work. And Roller, fire the idiot in your entourage with the Boba Fett knit hat and Mandalorian armor sweatshirt. He's a tool and really has no business anywhere there aren't Wookiees. Speaking of Wookiees, I bet you didn't know there are towns in England named Wookey and Wookey Hole. I think I know where I'm buying summer homes.

Craig Hummer, you have an unfortunate last name. I'm sorry. Horodecki is fighting next month, which should be good. I have Benavidez beating Yahya. He's just insane in the cage. That card looks good. It will be going on the to-record list. I'm still freezing my tookus off. What the eff is going on around here?

Doing a little Wikipedia search reveals that the Pearl at the Palms is "a 2,200 seat showroom." Other Palms facts: was the scene for one of the more entertaining seasons of Real World (threesome in the first 36 hours and a pregnanacy scare, anyone?) and in fact, the floor that the Real World was filmed on is available upon reservation. It is also the home of the only Playboy Club still in existance and is owned by the same guys (the Maloofs) who own the Sacramento Kings.

McCullough vs Darabedyan

Darabedyan has a name that would cause Frank Shamrock to get his braces tied in knots trying to say it. I'm just sayin'... Oh, look. The Amazon is reffing this fight. I haven't seen her in a while. Of course, there haven't been many WEC events on. I wonder if the UFC hasn't brought her in for a reason or whether she just hasn't been assigned by NSAC. Justipedia, could you get on that one for me? I'm a little lazy and still freezing my tookus off.

Nice little flurry in the first thirty seconds there. Darabedyan put a couple punches on him that may have earned him a little respect. I'm shocked Darabedyan trains with Manny Gamburyan. Probably Team Armenian Quest or something. McCullough has not looked good so far. Those leg kicks are landing with a satisfying thwack, though. Well, I'm not going to be watching TUF tonight. Top Chef is more important, honestly. Nevermind. Just set the ol' DVR to record a later version of the TUF: Team Rampage Is Still There? Darabedyan just kicked McCullough's **** that round. Round for Darabedyan.

Nice takedown by Darabedyan. Let's see what he's got on the ground. Just missed a leg lock that would have ended the fight because McCullough wa nowhere near ready to try to defend it. Darabedyan has completely owned this fight on the ground and on the feet. I don't think McCullough knows what to do with him at all. Mir's analysis of what McCullough needs to do shows why he's the best in the business. Especially his analysis of kicks to the leg vs jabs to the head. That was exactly what cost Rua (not to keep bringing that up). That was a very close round towards the end, but the damage that Darabedyan did on the ground at the beginning gets him a slight nod, but in the last couple minutes, McCullough started to get a grasp on Darabedyan, who really ought to take Rob down to close out the fight. Round for Darabedyan.

More of a kickboxing match, which you'd have to think would start to go McCullough's way. Good stuff of a takedown by McCullough, but no one has really done any damage to anyone. Good thing there are still two minutes to go or I would have to flip a coin to determine this round's winner. Another couple punches bounce off faces. Now that Mir mentions a broken hand, it occurs to me that I haven't seen Darabaedyan nthrow anything with his right hand in a while. He threw that wicked left jab, but I don't remember anything with the right. And what's the deal with this Twilight crap? Am I supposed to have any idea what it is or is it some plot to bilk teenage girls out of their cash? Is it anything that I should pay attention to or would I be risking my manhood by trying to figure out what it is? Round to McCullough.

I have it 29-28 Darabedyan. I don't know what's going on. How did a judge score that 30-27 for McCullough? 29-28 I could see (second round being the swing round), but how in the H-E-double hockey sticks could you give that first round to McCullough? Sheesh. I have no interest in Junior Seau's show, but I may have to watch the one where he's sparring with Forrest.

Garcia vs Gamburyan

Manny Gamburyan looks like he just woke up. I have to say, I've seen several Garcia fights and he is one tough dude. Gamburyan looks like Garcia's little cousin. Nice right by Garcia, but it didn't look like Gamburyan was too hurt by it. I think Gamburyan's corner is yelling to him in Armenian because I can't understand a word and it doesn't sound like Spanish. Garcia's feignts are keeping Manny at a distance, but at some point, something interesting has got to happen. Ah, yeah. While Rogan isn't here, we still get the nutshot cam. Phenomenal sprawl by Garcia, but he doesn't want this to be a clinch fight. With the height difference, he needs the distance and he can't afford to be that close. Good thing that round ended when it did or Garcia was going to get planted like a snapdragon, eh. Round to Garcia, barely.

Good strikes by Garcia. The height difference is really messing with Manny's ability to control the fight. I like Manny as a fighter, but I also think that his lack of height hinders his ability to consistently compete with a quality striker, but he slams Garcia and proceeds to do some pounding and throw some knees to the legs. Another good takedown, but it doesn't seem like Gamburyan really has the power to knock Garcia out and has struggled to get Garcia to the ground. I hate to harp on it, but maybe his lack of height (and subsequent lack of arm length) is affecting his ability to end the fight. Round to Gamburyan.

Opening bell and Manny is greeted with some leather by Garcia. Great right by Manny. More good punches by Manny. Garcia is getting a little frustrated and gets taken down for his effort of attempting to bait Manny. This is not where Garcia wants this fight... Nice work by Manny keeping the fight close and nice semi-slam. Garcia has Manny's right arm isolated, but hasn't done anything to make it work. Scramble to end the fight. Round to Gamburyan.

I have a 29-28 win for Gamburyan, but who knows what the judges saw. Especially the one who gave McCullough all three rounds. Well, I don't know about 30-27, but he definitely won the last two rounds. "He's a tough dude, dude." Such eloquence is truly breath-taking. Maybe if Gamburyan was still on his corner man's shoulders, the interview would have been face to face. Oh, and Brandon Vera, his name isn't "The Assassin." It is Ezio Auditore da Firenze, but you can just settle for Ezio. Come on, people. Work with me here...

Hey Frank, when you were shaving this morning, you missed a spot under your lip. It looks like you have a dingleberry. Just get rid of it. Seriously. I don't think Aldo knows anything about submissions. He just beats the crap out of people. This should be a really really good fight. I suspect it will end early, but in my humble opinion, the longer it goes, the better the chance Brown will hold onto his title. I didn't realize Aldo was 23. That makes him even more impressive to me.

ARE YOU READY?!?!?!?! Yes, Joe, I am. I am extremely ready for this main event.

Brown vs Aldo

Will the fight end quickly? Well, Brown has already lasted longer than Swanson. Both guys seem respectful of the other guy's ability. In the opeining bits, Brown doesn't seem to know what to do with the speed of Aldo and Aldo's punches and kicks don't seem to be affecting Brown too much. Wow. Aldo really tagged Brown, but a single leg saves Brown for now. Up against the cage like this is where Brown wants it to be. Or on the ground, but supposedly Aldo has a black belt in Jiu Jitsu. I say supposedly because I don't remember ever seeing him use it. Of course, with his power, I'm not surprised I've never seen it. Round to Aldo.

Wow. That was brually effective. Mike Brown is an incredible fighter, but he was completely outclassed by Aldo. I think the 145 division will be in trouble with trying to figure out what to do with Jose Aldo. He sprawled extremely well and was way to quick for Brown to begin to handle. I would like to see Faber try to handle him, but I have the feeling the fight would go the same way. It might take one more round to do it, but I suspect that if he can sprawl against Faber the same way, we would get the same result. I don't know if Faber's speed is anything like Aldo's, but I would love to find out. I suspect the next fight for Faber will be against Aldo (maybe one tune up?), and that will be nice. I am also surprised at how much Brown's eye is already closed up. Holy crap. I am still in awe of the damage Aldo put on.

So I guess the 145 division should get looked at: At the top of the mountain now is Jose Aldo. The next tier includes guys like Urijah Faber, Mike Brown (although he's closer to the bottom for right now), Raphael Assuncao, and Dominic Cruz. I would imagine that as soon as Faber's hands are healed and maybe one warm-up fight to knock any rust off, he will be given the privilege of first shot at Aldo. I know jcohl has said that the WEC needs Faber to be the champion from a marketablility standpoint, but I also think that someone like Jose Aldo could be a phenomenal champion. The only thing that might hold him and the WEC back is his lack of any English. Although, I also suppose that a lack of English hasn't hindered Anderson Silva any, but Silva is also a dominating force with a whole bunch of highlight wins. Aldo has that potential, and some could argue that his knockouts are just as impressive if not moreso than Silva, but he's also relatively unknown outside of the MMA junkies (i.e. the frenZied). Ultimately, I think the biggest problem that the WEC faces is lack of visibility. I want the rest of the world to see just how quick Jose Aldo is. I want the world to see the power and speed and quickness that he brings to the cage. Unfortunately, this is not especially possible under their current contract with Versus. Tonight, I saw a whole slew of Tweets complaining and bitching to DirectTV about them not carrying Versus. I have Time Warner, so I got it in HD, but I also don't get HDNet. That is a blessing and a curse, though. I don't get to see stuff like the M1 challenge or MMA Weekly, but I also don't have to suffer through Annoying Announcer Guy (whose name constantly eludes me). Schiavello or something? I don't know.

If Zuffa can find a different home for the WEC (and I don't mean absorbing them and adding three new weightclasses the the UFC), I think that would be best for all involved. I'm sure Spike could be convinced to pony up some dough for this, especially given how well the UFC stuff goes over. I don't think most of the people tune in for TUF just because it's a UFC brand. I think most of them are true fight fans and MMA fans who are hooked on the UFC in part because it's the best fighters in the world competing againt the toughest competition in the world. And in a sense, that's exactly what the WEC is, just at smaller weight classes. And I would even go farther as to say that pound for pound, the WEC offers better, more exciting action than the UFC because the smaller guys go harder longer and with more action. When was the last time you saw a truly boring WEC fight? The guys' cardio is better, and you're also not dealing with big, fat guys laying and praying for fifteen minutes. These fighters are pound for pound better than the guys in the UFC, but because they're on Versus, no one really knows who they are outside of the names of Urijah Faber and Jens Pulver (who wasn't included in the earlier discussion because I don't think he's capable of handling the best in the Featherweight division and I don't want to see his legacy dimmed by getting his crap pushed in by Faber again, Brown, or Aldo). This is an exciting time for the WEC. They have a division that is just as loaded and stacked (Featherweight) as any division in the UFC, and I hope that the rest of the people out there see it too.

Oh, and the Junior Seau show is on with Forrest. How cool would it be to be Stitch Duran? Oohhh... He's training with Forrest before the Silva fight. Will we see anything into why he ran out of the ring? Doubt it, but who knows. Those are kind of silly looking Team Forrest shirts, but I think I would get one just to wear on fight nights. Although I'd feel like a **** still. I just couldn't see myself wearing anything like that and not looking like a complete tool. After watching part of this show (and I'm sure that there wasnt' a whole lot of real training involved, I'm not surprised FOrrest lost. Seau would suck (and he does) as a training partner. Rhetorical question by Seau, "Just how dangerous is Anderson Silva?" Well, I would say he is the best in the business, bar none. Awwww... As a thank you gift, Seau got Forrest a new jock strap. Although after seeing the one Forrest had been using for two years (yes, two years), it was actually a nice gift. Forrest's old one was really gross. Hello, Logan. Hello, Arianny. How you both doin'? This event was in Philly, and I see at the weigh-ins that Dana was wearing a Phillies jersey. Suck up. Junior makes it sound like he was there for a significant portion of the training. I am curious if that's the case or whether he's just saying that for the show. If he was there for a significant portion of training, would that have something to do with Forrest's rather poor performance? Beats the heck out of me. Did we ever figure out why Forrest ran out of the cage? It certainly wasn't a broken jaw or anything because he's talking to Junior after the fight. Kind of an interesting show, but if you have no interest in the specific sport involved, it might not be too interesting. Who knows? Maybe I'll give the show another shot with something else. Probably not, but ya never know.

That's all I got. Peace out, b!tches.

I know some of the big wigs on here will understand this....atleast I hope! Since when did Randy's performance suck? I really thought he approached the fight the right way against vera and once again showed he can adapt to any fighting style. He controlled vera and used his clinch which has been his money maker for years now, I hate the fact that I read about how boring the fight was because I was highly entrigued during the fight but maybe that's cause I am used to the old days and love mma.......Am I wrong here those of you guys that have been aroung awhile did you not appreciate his perfomance and think he fought the right fight?

This thread I've made will be my predictions on what lack luster cards need to be "over the top" The main objective is to take a decent card and make it a Solid Card.

I was thinking about UFC 110 yes I know its a good ways away from it. Feb. 20 2010 is when its taking place.

Wanderlei Silva vs. Yoshihiro Akiyama
Nate Marquardt vs. Chael Sonnen
Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic vs. Ben Rothwell
Stephan Bonnar vs. Krzysztof Soszynski
James Te Huna vs. Igor Pokrajac

As you can see it could be a free card, because it may not have enough drawing power to be a good sell PPV. So I got thinking about what this card needs most which is a Main Event. It has great fights on the card already but nothing on a 5 round fight. So what about Big Nog vs Velasquez interm champ.

This is based strictly on if Nog can be ready by Feb.20
I think this is just what this card needs, plus it well answer a few questions can Velasquez hang with the top guys. How does Nog handle this young aggressive wrestler.

UFC 110 Nogueira vs Velasquez

Main Card

Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira (Vs.) Cain Velasquez
Wanderlei Silva (Vs.) Yoshihiro Akiyama
Nate Marquardt (Vs.) Chael Sonnen
Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic (Vs.) Ben Rothwell
Stephan Bonnar (Vs.) Krzysztof Soszynski

Under card

James Te Huna (Vs.) Igor Pokrajac

Wasn't sure if I was going to post this, because it's probably more personal than MMA-related, but as you'll soon read its marginally about MMA.

What this is probably more about than MMA is me. I usually don't talk about myself in terms of martial arts, or MMA, because my training has been sporadic over the years, and my amateur results mixed. Plus, at 32 years of age, it's not like I'm going to be able to commit to MMA the way someone needs to to make a successful showing.
However...
Something has been nagging at me for the last 6 years or so.
That 6 years has been about the last time I was in an MMA fight, which I lost when a knee connected with my forehead enroute to a takedown.
Before this goes any further, maybe I should mention that I've had 4 amateur MMA fights in my life, winning 2 and losing 2. Both losses came by KO, a liver kick which put me down and left me unable to intelligently defend myself, and that knee to the head.
A .500 record in any sporting endeavor always irked me, because its too much like a draw, whcih I hate because it provides no resolution, but personally it's really not sat well since late 2003. Also, we're talking about MMA here, and if you're reading this then there is a good chance you know there is almost nothing I'm as passionate about than MMA.
That being said, I'm taking a friend up on and offer and I'm starting training after the Labor Day weekend for one last amateur MMA fight, probably in Hawaii near year's end. Now if I lose, which is probably a decent bet, considering my years of inactivity, my erratic training to date, and my almost laughable stand-up, I can accept making an amateur go at my favorite sport and coming up short. If my opponent sneezes in the cage or the sun catches him in the eye or he spends the night before the fight up on Diamondhead with twins and a bottle of vodka, then I manage to end my active involvement in my favorite sport somewhat ahead of the curve.

I've got a lot to work on, cardio, stand-up, etc.
I'm sure a lot of the wrestling, catch-wrestling, and minimal BJJ and kajukenbo submissions I've picked up over the years and thru my travels have eroded, and need polishing and refining.
Also, there is a little problem of my weight.
Today sadly I got off of the scale after enjoying a lunch of pasta rags with sun-dried tomato pesto and asiago cheese, and the damned thing said 227 FAT!!
Now I've always competed at 205, or 200 when I wrestled or grappled, so imagine my surprise when years of relatively soft living and good eating thanks to my culinary school training has resutled in me needing to drop 22 pounds.
I've never weighed more than maybe 215 in my life, and for the most part I've stayed in decent enough shape for a guy who has passed 30.
Unfortunately for me there is a huge difference between being in decent enough shape to date women and go for evening runs with my dog and being able to last 15 minutes in the cage with a younger, more skilled opponent in Hawaiian weather.

So...to keep sane, and keep it all in perspective, I decided to borrow a little spot in the forum and sort of turn it into a blog of sorts, detailing how I plan to get from a 227 pound chef with 6 years of cage rust in the first week of September to a 205 pound amateur MMA fighter sharp enough to avoid getting getting KTFO'ed by some kid barely out of high school looking to impress a local crowd and do it by the second week in December.
I'll be posting here periodically, and I welcome all sorts of feedback, whether it be positive like, "hey, cool dude, best of luck", or instructional like, "bro, keep your hands up and your chin tucked", or even something like, "hey sh!tstain, after running roughshod over Lesnar and Fedor here at the frenZy for months, I hope your opponent hits you so hard your bowels release in full view of the crowd and it winds up on fu<king youtube!"

Thanks for your time and interest, no matter what form it takes...

WE ARE LIVE!!!!

Rolled into Spice's brother's house. It is a really cushy place. Wow this place is nice. I'm in complete awe. Somehow I managed to tear myself away from Modern Warfare 2 long enough to watch this stuff. I'm still exhausted from last night's massive UC game, but I'm a trooper, so I'll bang away at the keyboard for this one. Roll call: Dbiz, Bsbiz, and Spice. No one else was able to break away to make it. Wonderbread used his weekly escape ticket to go to the game, and he needs to save himself for next weekend. Plus, it's a free-per-view tonight, so no problems. Shirley is MIA, Boo-Bear is in hibernation, and the Giant is at home with his two-week old child. Plus, he's saving up for next weekend as well.

Could this be the first UFC event that comes with mandatory subtitles? We can hope so, especially after that interview. Oh, and since it's in England, we will be dealing with weights in stone. Crap. Ross Pearson from Sunderland. For those of you unfamiliar with English geography, that's in the northeast near Newcastle.

Pearson vs Riley

Strike strike, kick kick, oh what a relief it is. Pearson is getting the early advantage and looking good. Rogan says Riley needs to losen up, but Pearson may not give him a chance to loosen up. Pearson is showing a phenomenal array of strikes, kicks, knees, and elbows all of which coming from different angles. Now in the last 90 seconds of the round, it looks like Riley is starting to really get his feet under him, but Pearson is looking extremely solid. Riley ain't looking so good for a Greg Jackson fighter, but we shall see how it goes.

Spice: Pearson
Dbiz: Pearson
Bsbiz: Pearson

Did I mention that I'm stealing someone's wireless internet? Yeah. Don't try this at home, kids. Or you, Gun. Ooohhh... Natalie Portman movie. I won't see it, but I'll certainly imagine it. Call me crazy, but don't call me late to dinner. No, seriously, from what I've seen in this fight, Pearson may be one of the more solid, quite possibly best, pure strikers in the 155 division. He's made Riley look silly. All that's missing (literally) is the finish. Spice comments on how well Pearson moves again, and says he doesn't want to sound like he's getting a chubby, but methinks he doth protest too much. Speaking of chubbies, Goldberg just commented on teaching someone rubberguard around Rogan. And we have a winner! And we have our first fleeting expletive. Good thing of it got bleeped or that would cost someone a few hundred thousand per something. I don't know the exact rules. Oh, and Spice just finished himself off along with Pearson's finish of Riley. Dammit, Twitter, update already.

****. Post-fight interviews. Oh, how I didn't miss any of that crap. Blah blah blah fishcakes. Whatever, Joe Rogan. I'm so over that crap. WTF?!?!?!?!?!? Hulk Hogan is still wrestling? Wow. Talk about needing to just retire. Hogan, just retire and stay retired. I'm sure there's plenty of room for you on the rubber chicken tour.

It's time for Matt Brown... Sweeeeet..... 'Nati representing!!!!!!!!!!!

Brown vs Wilks

I still have Matt Brown winning by murder. Oh, I can hope. Not that I have anything against Wilks, and in fact, far from it. But I'm solidly a Brown fan. Wilks is doing some good work. What is going on here? I wanted a war and now I'm getting a technical fight? Come on, guys. Excellent strikes by Brown and good takedown defence as well. I hate to say it, but I think Wilks won that round.

Spice: Wilks
Dbiz: Wilks
Bsbiz: Wilks

Outstanding second round so far for Brown. That was a nasty st of strikes and nice work by Brown. Good leg lock attempt by Wilks, but good escape and good work by Brown. He ain't called the Immortal for nothing. Wilks is dead on his feet. He's exhausted and you can tell. Nice sweep by Wilks at the end, but it shouldn't be enough to win him the round.

Spice: Brown
Dbiz: Brown
Bsbiz: Brown

Third and final round. Hello, Arianny. Oh, and hello, Logan. Crap. Wilks has closed the distance again. He needs to do that to win this one. If it's a striking contest, Brown will win. He demonstrated that in the second round. If Wilks can kind of smother him, he could win. Wow. How did Brown survive that kimura? That was a good submission, but an excellent escape. And Matt Brown comes through with the win via assault and battery. It wasn't murder, but it was still a good win. I will give Wilks credit. He is a tough guy.

Wow... If that blond is the new Mrs. Couture, he did really well for himself. Granted, she looks like she's 26, as Spice said, but even so. More power to him.

Winner vs Delgado

There is a raging debate going on between Dbiz and Spice over whether Delgado looks like the Unabomber or Manson. Debate is settled after it is revealed his nickname is the “Crazy Cuban.” He's supposed to look like Fidel, I guess. Dbiz thinks he looks like a white Kimbo. What a punch by Winner. That wa quick. Good recovery by Delgado. Nice leg kicks by Winner, and since this isn't Cali, they do score. Where was the ref for that knockout? He should have been there a little quicker. Those punches were unnecessary. After the review, I am convinced the ref was over trying to look down Logan's shirt instead of paying attention to the fight. Unacceptable job there, Leon.

Ahhh. Interview with Tito? Tito is glad he “doesn't have to leave the mountain.” Dbiz wants to know if he means his house or his wife. Ouch. Sounded like he was making excuses for his disappointing fights. Now, I am not going to discount having a bad back, and maybe I am sort of. Or maybe it's just that I think Tito is an a$$hat. Oh, well. At least it's done. Oh, and Tito, I don't think you were that close to submitting Machida. Yeah, you had him in a triangle, but I don't think it was as close as you're making it out to be.

Bisping feels he lost respect in the fighting world. That may be, but I still haven't found anyone in the non-fighting world who respects you.

Kang vs Bisping

Crap. I'm giving up fighting with the wireless stuff. Nothing reliable going on. Oh, well. I'll just have to wait to post this.

Goldberg giving Bisping credit for wanting to fight Wandy Silva, but Silva was still out having the scar tissue in his face removed. I wonder how much of his face Wandy will have left. Goldberg points out Bisping is not likely to circle around to Kang's right hand. Bisping goes down via a nasty right hand. Kang in side control. Bisping is doing a good job defending, but Kang isnt' doing anything really to make Bisping suffer for not trying anything offensive. Kang needs to just lay some leather down. Maybe it's just me, but I don't understand why more guys don't try to put arm trianles on people. If you're in half guard, it seems like a logical attack to go for. No way that round goes any way but for Kang. Without a doubt, the best round I've seen from Kang since he came to the UFC. Same for Dbiz. Especially considering he can't remember any of Kang's other fights.

Spice: Kang
Dbiz: Kang
Bsbiz: Kang

I would like to apologize in advance if there aren't as many jokes as usual. These are better when there are a whole bunch of us. Oh, well. We're working with what we have.

Kang apears to be circling to his left to try to create an angle for his right, and Bisping got tagged again. I think Bisping's weakness may be looking for a right. Good takedown for Bisping. Kang is supposedly a blackbelt, but he may be the weakest black belt I can remember seeing. What a round for Bisping. Kang, in all honesty, has not really showed anything I can remember in these fights. He may not be on the roster for too much longer. Especially because he just appears to be target practice for fighters who need a win. I still dislike Bisping. If Bisping ever gets really sick, I think his Make-A-Wish should be to be taken seriously.

Hamman vs Gustafsson

“You can tell that guy has been training with Hardonk.” That made me giggle. Yes, I really am in my thirties. Nice KO for Gustafsson. Will we need a translator? Will we even get an interview? “It was a good punch.” That is in the running for understatement of the year. If there were bonuses for Understatement of the Night, he'd win hands down. Hamman's face is messed the eff up.

Man, I wish this card didn't suck. All these great fights and knockouts? Too bad this card just sucks monkey balls. It needed more good fights. People, just quit complaining about the cards and watch. You never know when you'll get a gem like this. Seriously people, just shut up.

Oh, and Dan Hardy just comes off like a c0ck. I just dislike him and don't really have a good reason. Maybe some day I'll figure it out. But as of right now, I don't have any concrete reason.

Swick vs Hardy

People, when you do a staredown, be sure to review this tape. That was how a staredown should be done. None of the other crap Sweeeeeet. Joe Rogan Nut Shot Cam, oh, how I've missed you. My day is complete now. That was a really really really hard round to score.

Spice: Hardy
Dbiz: Hardy
Bsbiz: Swick (I'm being spiteful)

Hardy is no joke on the feet. Nice by Swick to talk back to his corner during the fight, but he needs to do something big to win that fight. In the first round, the ref did a good job of not separating the fighters and then in the second did a good job of separating them. This ref is doing a good job. Pay attention to what's going on, Leon. Hardy shook off a punch which, as Rogan will usually point out, means that it hurt him. So far, we have twice seen the GTA IV thing where someone asks “I'm looking for a fat guy with a bladder problem,” and all three of us have been confused which one of us she was talking to. We finally decided that she can't see us through the screen.

Spice: Swick
Dbiz: Swick
Bsbiz: Swick

Now this has been the round we've wanted to see. Nice wars here. Hardy really shouldn't be bothering with the takedowns and just swing away. He's winning that part. Swick going for his trademarked Swick-o-tine, but Hardy shrugged it off. Hardy has really looked good, but God St.-Pierre would probably end up taking him down and pounding him out.

Spice: Hardy
Dbiz: Hardy
Bsbiz: Swick (I'm still being spiteful)

I don't care how many ads they run for Super Dave, I refuse to watch it. I also don't care who they have as a guest, I'm still not watching it.

It is now time for the Main Event of the Evening. I can already hear jcohl panting like a teeny bopper in heat at the sight of Randy Couture. Hey, you'd better clean up after yourself, man....

Couture vs Vera

Hello, again, Logan... sigh Big kick for Vera, but now Randy is in his office. It's kind of funny to hear chants of “Randy, Randy” in a British accent. Vera is a tall guy. I didn't realize that until I saw them against the cage. Vera is doing a good job of keeping things tied up to maybe force the ref to separate them and get some distance. Vera is doing a really good job of denying the takedown. “Pretty uneventful round.” I couldn't have said it better myself, Joe.

Spice: Couture
Dbiz: Couture
Bsbiz: Couture

Something has occurred to me watching this fight. Couture is still a formidable fighter and definitely a force to be reckoned with, but at some point, age will take the edge off of all of his skills. I have not been very impressed with Randy's ability to do much of anything besides put Vera into the cage. Vera has stuffed nearly all if not all of the takedowns and Randy also hasn't hit him with much that would pose any real threat. I think this may be the fight that shows that Randy just can't compete with the more athletic, younger fighters. He got absolutely rocked with the left kick and if Vera realized a little quicker how badly he'd hurt him, he could have ended it.

Spice: Vera
Dbiz: Vera
Bsbiz: Vera

Well, maybe I'm wrong. Couture has looked better. And of course, having a giant handful of Vera's shorts assists with control. They call it “dirty boxing” for a reason. I don't know what to think about this fight now. I don't think Couture has much left in the tank. Full mount for Vera, but he didn't do anything with it. Good escape from Couture and a couple parting shots by Vera.

Spice: Vera
Dbiz: Couture
Bsbiz: Vera

We have it as:

Spice: 29-28 Vera
Dbiz: 29-28 Couture
Bsbiz: 29-28 Vera

Please refer to my comments on the second round for what I think of Randy. I just don't think he can consistently compete with the younger guns in the 205 division. He is a legend and from time to time will produce a gem, but I don't see him lasting much longer. Holy crap, I disagreed with that decision. Vera was justifiably **** about that one. Don't know what to say to him. He can take consolation in that he fought Couture to a virtual draw and quite possibly got a little robbed with the decision. He landed the most memorable and meanest shots, but got pushed around a little bit. I feel sympathy for him.

Carwin posted on the popular forum, The Underground with his thoughts on the Lesnar situation. I have said before and will say it again, Carwin is a big man, and I don't mean that in the physical sense. Whether or not you want him to beat Lesnar, you have to like the guy, IMO, because he is a good man.

Here is what he had to say:

I am sure most of you know I am not the leader of the Lesnar Fan Club. That being said, antics or not, he is OUR UFC HWT Champion. He beat a future Hall of Famer to keep that belt and he NEEDS our prayers and good thoughts right now.

At the end of the day I can take off my UFC shirt and say here is a man, a Champion that has been brought down by an illness not another man. It is very humbling if you think about it.

Brock has a wife, kid, and friends that depend on him to make their lives better. You do not have to support Brock and his antics but you should have respect for the human side of what is happening here.

This is not a ploy to sell more tickets, he is the biggest draw this sport has ever had. This is not him ducking me or any other fighter. This is about a man who is fighting an illness for his career, family and friends.

Talk of stripping a man of his title due to illness will set this sport back farther then anything Brock has ever said. We need our Champions healthy and defending. I know the show will go on but to be a Champion you must beat a Champion.

My family and I send our thoughts and well wishes to Brock's family, friends and training partners. We are indeed keeping you in our thoughts.

If you sit around bashing Brock or making fun of this because of his antics you might be the very same thing you despise. As an MMA fan, as a human be concerned that one of OUR OWN has fallen and needs our support.

Get well soon UFC Heavyweight Champ Brock Lesnar.

For tonite's free-per-view I had about 20 people over, mostly to just hang out and eat and drink for free, but about half the group were my regular MMA/PS3 crew, and half were assorted females and tag-alongs.

Tonite Couture was fighting, which I was pretty amped for, so I put a little something extra out for the folks that came out to watch 105 at my place.
Mostly a great night of fights, if not necessarily a Hall of Fame performance for the Natural. He won ugly, but he won, and made the point that he isn't quite dead yet, and wouldn't mind another title shot before packing it in.
Ross Pearson and Dan Hardy impressed everyone, and Mike Swick disappointed the females casually watching because they thought that Swick was hot, which made him getting beat all the better.
;)

And now, the menu...

Beer
- Red Stripe
- Pete's Wicked Wanderlust Creme Ale

Wine
- Barefoot Wine/Merlot, Chardonnay

Starters
- buffalo prawns [tossed in Dave's Insanity Private Reserve hot sauce] with blue cheese dipping sauce
- [mahagony]clams casino
- bacon wrapped sea scallops with a wasabi/avacado drizzle
- mushrooms stuffed with crabmeat, cornbread, and minced red jalapenos

Mains
- pork tenderloin stuffed with an orange/pineapple/banana relish and topped with a mango scotch bonnet sauce and served with a cauliflower gratin
- deviled crabcakes served on a sweet potato/chipotle pepper puree
- manicotti stuffed with mushroom duxelle and a white wine tarragon butter sauce

Dessert
- panna cotta with orange brandy caramel
- Chocolate pecan pie and peppermint bark candy from the Ghiaradelli store, brought by my buddy Mike and his female Bree

Does anyone see this as a possiblility in the future? I don't think boxing, tennis, or even WWE is on the radio...but I think it would be cool if MMA was. Opinions?
