I think the deal is that as MMA is gaining mainstream recognition and acceptance, Hollywood as always is looking to hop on board the next hot trend.
I don't watch a lot of TV, but friends tell me that more and more they see someone rocking a Tapout shirt, or some fight scene in a cop drama involve a RNC or armbar.
Also, movie studios have been pumping out a few MMA-ish type projects, with Redbelt probably being the most watchable.
With that in mind, it makes sense to me that Hollywood would at least give a look-see to real MMA fighters, either for small roles or to work as technical consultants...

Herring's official site is outdated by over two years... so don't go there, it's a waste of time.

Went to wikipedia, which said he had recently updated his facebook page so I went there and found this:
Well guys here's what I've been up to. Devil Dogs (2010) (pre-production) Unrivaled (2010) (filming) .... Demoledoe Salt (2010) (post-production) (uncredited) .... Henchman (Angelina is in this one) Hel l's Chain (2009) .... Lucas Owens Never Surrender (2009) .... Stone - Hope y'all rented it :)

@ etherbunny - I also read somewhere that Heath Herring was trying his hand at acting after his various mental and medical tune-ups, like a few other MMA guys are doing. I'm sure Justin H or fr702 have more specific info...

Haven't read all the comments, but I personally would like to see, him face Big Country, for the "real" IFL heavyweight championship bout. ;) That is slightly assuming that Nelson will win TUF, though.

Herring originally had to have his face reconstructed after the Lesnar shot in the 1st(being serious), then he caught a pretty severe illness(I heard MRSA but not sure) before UFC 99, and has since been on hiatus.

I dont have any interest in Herring - Velasquez at this point. Velasquez has earned a contender fight at this point with Nogera or Dos Santos, depending on if the ufc wants new blood for the title or thinks Nog has earned a contender fight again.

How about going to other way for Rothwell. Rather than giving him someone ranked "better" than he is, give him Herring or Russow.

With his losses to Arlovski and Valesquez, he has lost twice to top 10 fighters in recent history.

That's a good call ,I was thinking Loser of Kongo/Mir but that still maybe a little to high for Ben ,I shouldn't really think of anyone else , Loser of Dos Santos/Gonzaga does sound like a good match for Ben.

True that.
Barry said he wants to fight Kongo, but if his wish comes true, he might have to wait a while.
In the mean time, he could fight Rothwell later this year, then fight Kongo, depending on the outcome of his fight against Mir.

I wonder how long Rothwell will be out, he took a beating on Saturday night.

Wow good call.
That would be a battle of two giants. Struve has some good jiujitsu so he could probably submit Ben, but who knows. That would be an interesting fight though.
He would probably need to bulk up a little.
And I think Rothwell needs to work on his conditioning. I dont question his heart whatsoever, I just think he has some things he should definitely work on.

Hardonk is another idea, seeing how he is coming off of a loss to Barry.

Great question! Rothwell has the misfortune of always being mistaken with "the moon" I see him fighting several of the mid-tier guys. A possible fight with Struve would be a possibility as Struve is really on the way up.

Haha I was kinda thinking the same thing. However, would you have him fight Gonzaga if he beat Dos Santos, or if he lost to Dos Santos?

How about Kongo vs. Rothwell? That could be interesting.
I think Kongo would win that fight though. The only way I could see Rothwell winning is if he found a way to really use his weight to his advantage, or if he worked on his wrestling.
Because we all know Kongo has a horrible history against wrestlers.

Now that Rothwell is officially 0-1 in the UFC, whats next for him?

Possible opponents? Who do you think would be a good matchup for him?

Im not a fan of him by any means...Im just wondering where he will go from here.

I think he made a bold statement by saying he would beat Velasquez. In the UFC you cant be too cocky or overconfident, otherwise you will probably have a serious wake up call.

If he loses his next fight, do you guys think he will be cut?
Its difficult these days to tell if a guy is staying or getting cut.

Thanks, bigchris2328.
I'm new here, and just trying to participate while avoiding any drama or pi$$ing anyone off.
And the reason I come here is to be exposed to the viewpoints of other members of the MMA fan community. I got tired of hearing the same old stuff from the same old folks down at Dave & Busters or Hooters or at my own place when I host PPV's.
MMAFrenzy has a great rep for intelligent MMA discourse, and in the last couple weeks I've seen how that rep was earned and is maintained.
The feedback is always much appreciated as well.

carls - I'm still pretty new here, and I haven't really figured out how to attatch an avatar, but that sounds like an awesome bet, and I'm definitely in. In my time I've been known to wager a case of beer or a my head of hair on the outcome of a fight, but the DeathClutch thing is off the hook, had me laughing my @$$ off, and I'm looking forward to the fight now more than ever.
Although to be honest, and I know this is going to upset Velasquez's fans and border on fighter-bashing, Carwin is going to murder Velasquez. I think Velasquez has a bright MMA future, but in the final analysis his time is a ways off, and for Shane Carwin his future is right now, particularly in a division looking for a solution to the Brock Lesnar problem...
