I found it interesting that him and the Ferttitas were split on the Couture fight. Shows how close it was in some peoples eyes. My friend and I are split on it. And hes even a big Couture fan. I think Vera showed though that he is getting better and will be a force come this time next year. He allready is though to me.

Everybody says GSP's weakness is his hands and his chin. But the fact remains that he oustruck one of the best strikers at 170 in Alves and his chin took a few shots in that fight aswell. All while never getting rocked. He even took a blasting from Penn who has great boxing and heavy hands for a full round with a broken nose and a poked eye and still never stumbled or looked rocked. He got cought against Serra. End of story.
He's been KOed once and subbed once so maybe his BJJ is his weakness.;)

To beat Georges you have to be the agressor and dominate him which is what KOs tried to do,and he did well against GSP. IMO. Penn took it to him in rnd 1 of their fist fight and did well. Thats why I say somone like Aaron Simpson would be a threat to GSP(even though you all think im crazy)cause he has the size, streangth, wrestling agression and power to do it. I just dont think "He" realizes it yet. i know hes 35 but he moves like hes 25. He is the only one who could take some rounds from GSP and not just win via the Serra effect. Guaranteed.

As for the HW div Id personally like to see Velasquez vs Carwin for the interim title.(since they were suppose to fight anyways and since then Cain has got yet another win) plus they are both undeafeated so that is pretty cool to. As soon as Shane is healed of course. Then have Nog when hes recovered fight Mir if he beats Kongo. For a title shot against Carwin/Velasquez winner. This all pending that Brock is out for 8-12 months though.

@ Jcohl,

Man I wish I knew where to start, I would love to do a true interview with the likes of Dana White, or any fighter, I mean I have no issues asking them questions when I talk with them anyways so whynot record and post it, O well perhaps one day....

@ fr702 - much obliged for posting the vid.

@ mk4 - you know I'm right there with you on the whole "Interim title" thing, but in this case it's sort of warranted IMO, unless Lesnar's prognosis suddenly spikes upward into the positive.

@ dontbedone - I think we need to make a distinction between Dan Hardy paying MMA dues, which IMO he has done, with close to 30 fights to his credit, and paying UFC dues, as they relate to a title shot, which IMO he has not.
What I would have liked to have seen was Hardy and Jon Fitch coach the next season of TUF, and then have them fight at the following PPV, with a winner receiving a title shot against GSP.
Beating Mike Swick doesn't make you ready for the Greatness, but beating Jon Fitch, if Hardy could do it, would.
Unfortunately for Hardy and his supporters I think that Fitch would make life miserable for Hardy in the cage, and win by either submission or ref stoppage.

Couple of thoughts after checking out Dana's interview:

- First, why isn't that Justin H or fr702 holding the mic and asking the questions for the frenZy, instead of some guy for that poser site where they're granting sh!t-for-brains posters magenta and aquamarine belts?
;)

-Second, Dana just seems really really tired to me, like he needs a long vacation, and some serious help running the MMA monster on the block.

-Third, Dana was SO over-tired he flubbed the GSP weakness question.
Obviously the answer isn't his stand-up, but the usual weakness.
Kryptonite. :)

- Finally, I wonder how Dana is going to explain how BigNog and Cain Velasquez's fight, whenever THAT drops, is going to logically be for the Interim title, when you have Frank Mir and Shane Carwin wondering, "WTF?!?!"
Mir has already beaten BigNog, and I'm pretty sure Velasquez wouldn't make it out of the first round with Shane Carwin, seeing as how no one else has...

i respectfully disagree with the assessment on hardy... im not going to say the guy hasnt paid his dues, hes got around 30 fights to his credit and hes still pretty young.. his takedown defense was there against swick and he looked fairly comfortable on his back against marcus davis, so i also wouldnt say he only has decent boxing...

as far as undeserving of a title shot, yeah maybe they could have waited and set him up with fitch or rumble if they won their bouts, but in a division that GSP has dominated, they gave him a really good challenge in swick and it was known beforehand that this would be a bout to award a title shot, and he went out and EARNED it for himself...

no, i dont think he has a real good shot at all of beating GSP, but i dont think GSP will come out without a scratch, hardy is pretty good at landing opportune strikes..

Thanks for the video fr702,

I hope that there is NO Interim Title because i hate those, Interim Titles are pointless, it's just a fancy name for #1 Contender's Fight.

i disagree that GSP hands are his weakness because he dropped Jon Fitch 3 or 4 times in his fight against Fitch and when he fought BJ Penn in their second fight he was owning BJ on the stand-up and when Thiago Alves was thought to threaten GSP on the stand-up GSP dropped him as well, the whole Matt Serra thing was proven to be a flouke long ago, GSP's only weakness would be if he doesn't believe in himself or is mentally not all there if, that would be his only weakness.

Dan Hardy is overrated and only has decen Boxing with ko power, but he has not paid his dues and is undeserving of a title shot and he will get destroyed by GSP period.

I hope Lesnar gets better, i feel bad for the guy, i think that an Interim Title Fight or even an actual Tiatl fight is inevitable because Lesnar doesn't seem to be getting better and if he does he'll still need a few months to completely heal and recover.

dana says GSPs only weakness may be his hands... not sure about that, he showed good standup and landed clean shots on thiago alves, hes good at picking his shots and has little bit of that machida elusiveness to him ...but hardy seems to have excellent power in his hands for sure, more than GSP i think...

i believe dana when he says the judges dont care what he thinks... too much at stake to think he has influence or bearing on outcomes as some has suggested..

First, compliments on the find, pretty thought provoking. I think Hardy was closest to the truth in his last argument. Most of the detractors of the sport of MMA (with some exceptions like John Mcain or the boxing gurus) fear combat. They would most likely rather p!ss their pants then put themselves in any kind of harms way. And one of the biggest arguments they like to throw out there is to use intelligence as a red herring for their own lack of courage. The guys in the cage aren't the ones inflicting violence upon society. And to compare animal fighting with human organized combat where the goal is to see that no fighter gets seriously injured is invalid as an argument for several reasons. Anyway I'm sure I'm preaching to the choir here, Dan Hardy sounds like a great ambassador for the sport and Dana should recruit him next time he's invited on a news show as he has Rich Franklin and Forrest Griffin.

well it seems like hardy just owned the guy. i could pick apart the ebbi guys posts, but i deal with this argument on almost a every other day basis and its the same thing. you explain to them exactly what hardy did, and they respond the way ebbi did. you cant get through to those people with that mindset. and its a shame that nowadays, people arent open to listening about other things to become educated on them. noone is saying to go out for mma, just give it a second chance and try to be educated about the multiple disciplines that are involved and the amount of dedication and skill required.

I was randomly rummaging around various MMA sties for something interesting to read [Frenzy is ALWAYS my first choice,] I stumbled upon this article. Supposedly Dan "The Outlaw" Hardy decides to answer an MMA criticizer. To my surprise, Hardy makes a compelling argument and articulates his points extremely well. I forgot he's British, so I'm assuming he's always aching for a good debate! Seriously though, I'm impressed! Though I'm not a Hardy fan inside the ring, maybe if he wrote a book, I'd pick that thing right up!

From : Bloodyelbow.com

Dan Hardy:

“I try to avoid debates with people I dont know, but when I was sent a link to an article in The Independent [an English national newspaper, fairly high-brow, yet with dwindling sales] website, about our wonderful sport, I was quite annoyed by a comment left on the page. I must have been in a bad mood that day, because I decided to engage the guy.”

Ebbi581:

“This is a savage and barbaric act, not a sport. Chicken, dog, bear and all other animal fighting are criminalized but when it comes to human beings anything goes. It is a shame. This level of violence in the 21st century is stupid.”

Hardy:

“I’m sorry, I have to disagree. Your level of ignorance in the 21st century is stupid. This is a sanctioned and organized sport and, just because it isn’t to your taste, doesn’t mean it is wrong.

I’m sure there are a lot of things that you enjoy, that wouldn’t interest me, that doesn’t mean they should be illegal. I love this sport, not only as a fan, but as a participant. Nobody forced me to do it, I enjoy the competition and the opportunities the sport provides. Since 1995, there have been 123 deaths in Cheerleading, do we make it illegal? Cheerleading has also left 782 people paralyzed. Do you know how many deaths or serious injuries in Mixed Martial Arts? Zero. My name is Dan Hardy (one of the fighters discussed in the above article), and you are welcome to come to my gym in Nottingham and learn a little more about the sport and the athletes involved. I think, if you invested a little time in it, as opposed to casting an uneducated judgement, you might just learn something.”

Unfazed by the chance to argue with an actual participant in this 'barbaric act' Ebbi581 continued without trepidation:

“Sorry my friend, I condemn any kind of violence sport where people can seriously get hurt. I am against any kind of violence whether sanctioned or not. Sorry I have no time to invest in watching people beating each other. This is the 21st century and civilized people should not need to engage in active violence. Read your comment again. Is there truly anything to learn from two people locked in cage while beating each other where brain damage is a sure possibility ? Your argument about cheerleaders does not hold water since they do not intend to beat each other. The intention is ‘not’ to hurt one another but if the rate of injuries becomes ridiculous then it must be looked at with possible safety provisions, but it is entirely different to two people trained and psyched up to beat each other . If we can stop animal fighting we must stop human fighting. The human race must be mature enough to realize that violence is not the answer. Although I can understand your position since the fights are providing your bread and butter.

Finally there is nothing about human fighting to require educated judgment. Educated people do not engage in violent sports.”

Hardy again responds:

“No sir, educated people know that they are in no position to pass judgement on other peoples lifestyles. That means, unfortunately you have just revealed, not only your lack of open-mindedness, but also a lack of intelligence. I agree with your point about animal fighting, the difference there is, [sic] the animals being made to fight, dont have a choice. I, on the other hand, would partake in this sport, even if it wasnt paying my bills. What about all of the other sports where physical contact is a part of the game? I’m sure you are aware of the amount of injuries sustained in, say, American Football? rugby ? Ice hockey ? Do we ban these also? Maybe sanctioned sports that allow physical contact, are a cathartic activity for the millions upon millions of people that have a desire to express their animal nature?

We can’t all sit in our armchair and cast judgement on others, supressing our human nature and being content with golf. Having said that, using your words, there is nothing to be “learned” from golf either, so why not ban that also ? I am sure that you occasionally enjoy an alcoholic beverage, talk on a mobile phone, perhaps you visit a fast food restaurant from time to time. Do you give up all of these things because they can be dangerous? With your attitude, you might as well lock yourself in your house and stare through the window, contemplating the dangers of the outside world, condeming the public for taking such risks as to cross streets and drive cars.”

“I happen to enjoy testing myself against another, well-trained human being, in the controlled environment of my favourite sport. I understand the risks, as does my opponent. nobody is making you partake in the sport, or even watch it, so please don’t come on here and cast judgement upon me, and all of my fellow athletes, when you have no knowledge of the sport or the people involved. Nine people died from upturned lawnmowers last year, nobody died from competing in a mixed martial arts event. I don’t cut grass, so I am confident that there are a lot more people at risk than I am. Why don’t you go and bother them instead of littering this page with your foolish comments.”

Ebbi581 responds again:

“My friend. You are insulting me as lacking intelligence. I can equally be rude, very easily, but here we observe a very clear distinction between you and I. You compare golf with barbaric fighting ? And ban golf because its boring? When was the last time people got hurt or killed by playing golf ? Of course I expect that you are intelligent enough to be able to distinguish between unintentional accidents and intentional infliction of pain and wound upon other people in the name of openness of mind and intelligence ? You do not find one intelligent person going out there with the intent to hurt another human being, but contrary to your very shabby, desperate and well-worn, antique argument, you go inside a ring to inflict maximum damage to your opponent. This is where my argument starts, this is what I call barbarism and savagery at its best, put on visual display of [sic] a bunch of equally sick people who pay to see it ! Intelligent people do not and should not need to beat the **** out of each other even in a “controlled environment” in the name of sport! What on earth is ‘controlled environment’ while two people in a cage are killing each other? What is exactly controlled? Of course I do not expect you to agree or understand my position as intelligence is not and can not be your character´s strongest point. I can assure you that money is the incentive and there are people just like yourself who are making good money hence would put up a fight to portray this savagery as a sport. This is the 21st century and we should not and need barbarism and brutality in the society and certainly the people who promote it who clearly are financially benefiting from it.”

Hardy finally decides he should probably be concerning himself more with Mike Swick than Ebbi581 but parts on this note:

“I mean not to insult you sir, I merely observe. “Judge not, lest ye be judged”. Some of the most distinguished and respected philosophers in history, have been generals and soldiers. Mankind has a warlike nature, nothing will ever change that. be it, the spectators in the stands, baying for blood, or the gladiator in the arena, proving his worth. Mixed martial arts is a violent sport, I agree, but to call the athletes ‘uneducated’ is short-sightedness. The difference between you and I, sir, is that I embrace what I fear, in order to learn from it. You on the other hand, condemn it, knowing that you would never have the courage or dedication to see it through approach it head on.”

Miyamoto Musashi, for example, was a great japanese philosopher, and the author of one of the most influential books in the business world to date, The Book of the Five Rings. throughout his life, he killed, I believe, 64 men in duels, his first one being at the age of fifteen. I feel he summed you up perfectly when he wrote; “People in this world look at things mistakenly, and think that what they do not understand must be the void. This is not the true void. It is bewilderment…”

“Combat was the earliest form of sport, and has always been the most respected. no other sport offers you the opportunity to prove yourself, both physically and mentally. In the 21st century we have had the foresight to realise that mans warlike nature will always be. Call it barbaric, call it what you will, man will always need an opportunity to prove ones self through combat, in one form or another. The intelligent ones among us, realise that a controlled environment is the best place to do this. A controlled environment being, a governed sport, with many rules and regulations, as is mixed martial arts. I don’t see the benefit of wasting any more time, debating this with you, when you clearly can’t see reason.

“To use your words, I accept my ‘barbarism’, as you should accept your ignorance. I aim not to injure another human being, but to test myself, in order to learn about my capabilities, and grow as a person. I hope, in some small way, this debate will open your eyes a little, to a world that you clearly know nothing about. I also hope that, one day between now and the day that you die, that you find something that you fear, and attack it head on. Nothing has ever been achieved from condemning that which you fear. As another famous (and warlike) philosopher said: ‘Cowards die many times, before their actual deaths’. It was Julius Caesar.”

I think this fight will not make it past the first round, and I think davis will win. I think hardy has talked too much and will not be able to back it up. theres a certain point of trash talking, once you pass it you end up doing damage to yourself. you may think you have gotten inside your opponents head, but you actually just pushed him past the limit, and he will come out and destroy you. davis is really **** and will steamroll hardy, I dont think hardy is on the same level of davis, I think hardy is too raw and inexperienced.

1. I thought this was supposed to be about Marcus Davis v. Dan Hardy?
2. The UFC would never let Silva go fight for Strikeforce, unless he puts together a string of losses, which is highly doubtful. Whatever they offered him, the UFC would double just to make sure that who they claim is the best P4P would end his career in their organization.
