I also got texts for food people could eat in front of the TV, instead of needing to sit at the table, so with that in mind the menu looked something like this:</p> <p>Beer -<br /> NegroModela<br /> Corona Light<br /> Red Stripe</p> <p>Wine -<br /> Folonari Pink Pinot Grigio<br /> [in honor of my friend Bree, who is celebrating 6 years of beating breast cancer, and is now an activist in the Susan G Komen organization. She stopped by tonite to hit us all up for donations, so I made her hang and watch the fights before giving her a check :) ]</p> <p>No specific starters or mains tonite, just small plates that people could pick at while they watched the fights, and di&lt;ked around with my laptop and the CSI online game.</p> <p>For the culinarily savvy, you'll notice everything is "wrapped" or in some other way packaged to be eaten without utensils.<br /> Also, FYI, everything is sized to fit on small tapas plates, so no one needed to sweat flatware.</p> <p>- Crab Involtini [crabmeat mixed with ricotta cheese, vodka sauce and minced pepperoncini, then placed in a ramakin and topped with a pie crust and baked]</p> <p>- Salmon Wellington [salmon slathered with goat cheese and diced balsamic carmelized red and white onions, wrapped in a puff pastry, and baked]</p> <p>- Philly cheesesteak eggrolls [thinly sliced flank steak tossed in a provolone chese sauce with diced onions, peppers, and mushrooms, then folded into a wonton skin and flash fried</p> <p>- grilled wine-soaked portobello mushroom caps stuffed with shrimp ceviche</p> <p>Dessert -<br /> the 24 piece red velvet cupcake tower from Carolina's Cupcakery, brought by my man Pete and his gf Lesa.</p> <p>Everyone enjoyed the fights, especially my buddy Shawn, who worships the ground that Fedor's sweat drips onto.<br /> I didn't have the heart to tell him that IMO Brock Lesnar would have finished the Fedor that showed up tonite at the Sears Center in round 1 by a GnP so frightening it would give Stephen King nightmares.<br /> ;)<br /> One of the females cracked me up when she busted out the line of the night: "hey, is this fake like wrestling? We had decent $75 seats but were able to sneak down to the $350 seats, front row center in front of the cage (behind Fedor's corner). Beers were way overpriced, so it was good we predrank. Poor Roxy, she got a good ovation but did not perform. Hopefully we'll see her back in the near future. The other opening fights were exciting, but since there were no replays on the screen for the prelims if you blinked (which I did), you missed it. I caught Roxy's sub and the rib injury. </p> <p>I thought Bigfoot had the fight won in the first, but Verdum proved why he's considered one the best BJJ for MMA at heavyweight. I will say that I was more impressed with Sokadjou than Mousasi, mostly cause I thought Gegard would walk through him. I had Sokadjou winning the first, but it could have been the beers. The Mayhem/Shields fight was almost as bad live as Silva/Leites. Did it stink as much on TV? Everyone around was yelling stuff like "this isn't grappler's quest", or "go back to high school wrestling". Yeah, it's MMA, but come on, you've got 5 rounds, try to finish the fight. </p> <p>The main event was worth the whole trip. I was shocked Rogers was booed as much as he was considering he's got Chicago ties. I gave him the golf clap, but everyone around was staight booing him. It could have been that his brother was yapping to everyone wearing a Fedor shirt (myself included). Fedor's pop was HUGE. However, the first chant during the fight was "USA, USA". Chicago fans, go figure. Got a little scared at the first punch, then when Rogers was GnPing Fedor. But we all saw his resolve and why he's the best in the world. And no, Fedor's not the best because he beat Rogers, he's the best because of how he beat Rogers. </p> <p>Rothwell was there and I asked him if he's done with UFC. He said no, it's cause he's a fight fan. Fair enough. He's fighting next in Feb. but he doesn't know who. Cung Le confirmed he'll be fighting Smith. I asked a Strikeforce bigshot why Hendo refused to sign a UFC poster yesterday, whether it was Strikeforce policy to not let competition's stuff get signed. He said there's no such policy and it was most likely Dan's distain for UFC (his words, not mine). However, he also said that he doubts Hendo will sign with Strikeforce because of his high demands. DREAM maybe? UFC probably. </p> <p>The night ends waiting for our shuttle while one of the Fedor cleanup crew (3 dudes wearing white coveralls with F-ED-OR in big red leters, you may have seen them on tv) fertilizing the lawn of the Sears Centre with whatever he ate and drank that night. We see them back at the hotel and laugh. He really got through to his fighters and if you look at the success his fighters have had, its pretty impressive.
